I was very impressed that the standard has improved so much and nowhere was this more evident than in the under 8s category. Thanks to the help from the seniors and all of the officials there were no gaps between fights and before long we were down to the finals and 3rd and 4th place fight offs. At this stage Sensei Ken Fitzpatrick, Senpai Alan McCoy and Darren McIntyre performed a Kata demo followed by Senpai Alan performing multiple breaks using only clicker techniques demonstrating the devastating effects the techniques would have if delivered with force. The last fights of the day were as fast and furious as any we had seen throughout the tournament and at 3:30 we were finished. The results are as follows:
Under 8 1st - Eric McLoughlin (Mullingar) 2nd -Isabel Carey (Galway) 3rd - Jamie Cunningham (Galway) 4th - Patricia McCoy (Mullingar) Under 12 1st - Diarmuid McCormack (Galway) 2nd - Grace O'Malley (Westport) 3rd - Finn Quaile (Kilcloon) 4th - Aoibhinn Ni Coillte (Galway) Best Spirited Fighter Harry Arthur (Galway) | Under 10 1st - Robert O'Reilly (Galway) 2nd - Cathal O'Grady Corcoran (Galway) 3rd - Brendan Chasseriaud (Galway) 4th - David Lennon (Galway) Under 16 1st - Shauna Arthur (Galway) 2nd - Allanah Arthur (Mullingar) 3rd - Joey Ward (Galway) 4th - Thomas Holding (Mullingar) |
Senpai Dave King for organising the Venue, Mats and First Aid.
Sensei Ken Fitzpatrick for organising the Trophies
Dorothy King and Paul Cunningham for their continued assistance to Galway dojo (and for lunch) and the the First aid crew
All of the officials on the tables who worked tirelessly all day
All of the Referees and Judges who as always worked hard, some of whom were just starting out as officials.
And of course any else who I may have forgotten.
