Wiktor Lesiak also in his second tournament fought through to the semi finals of the Novice Mens Middleweights category. He lost by decision to Blake Collins of England but won the 3rd place fight off giving him a well deserved 3rd place.
Also in the Novice Mens Middleweights was Johnathan Glennon in his third tournament. He fought his was through to the final where he came up against Blake Collins. The final was the best fight of the day going through rounds with Blake Collins emerging victorius leaving Johnathan with second place. The IKKU who hosted the tournament also awarded Johnathan Glennon the Most Spirited fighter award. Another good day for the IKK. The British Karate Kyokushinkai held their open tournament on 10th October 2014. As ever the IKK sent over a team of fighters. This years team was a mix of experience and newcomers across the different categories. Also travelling with the fighters as Coaches were Ken Fitzpatrick and Shane Mulhall. The IKK also sent two of its most experienced referees - Jon Maher and Shane Lalor. In the Novice Category we had Emilia Cahill fighting in her last Novice event before moving up to the Open category. Emilia fought very well over 3 fights narrowly losing out on top spot by decision. A worthy Second Place. In the mens Novice Middleweight event we had Wiktor Lesiak in his first run out. Wiktor fought well in the first round before losing by decision in the second round. In the mens Novice Heavyweight Category we had three fighters - Frank Reid, Seweryn Lesiak and Ian Corcoran - all first timers. Unfortunately Frank was stopped in the first round. Ian and Seweryn fought their way through the Draw to meet each other in the final with Seweryn a worthy winner. Another second place and now also a First as well. In the Mens Open Heavyweights experienced campaigners Alan McCoy and Dave King took to the mats once again. Sadly both lost in the Opening round but both gained valuable experience. In the Ladies open Heavyweights we had Aneta Meskauskiene who won easily in the first round but lost by decision in the next round. Last up we had Shauna Arthur in the cadet category. Despite being the youngest competitor at only 16 she fought with a confidence and maturity far beyond those years and was a worthy winner of the cadet girls title. At the end of the day we returned home more experienced and with two Second place and two first place trophies. Another good haul for the IKK. Shane
Our table officials and referees ensured the day went smoothly and before long we were down to the finals. Each year the standard improves across all 4 categories and this year was no exception. Results below.
