He has already started holding training sessions with a view to picking those who wish to compete at the BKK Kata tournament in February 2014 and the World Kata Tournament in March 2014. The IKK was represented at the World Kata Tournament in Poland in 2003 and had a team selected (which included Sensei Jon) for the World Kata Tournament in Switzerland in 2011. Unfortunately all flights out of Ireland were grounded during that time due to the Icelandic Volcano erupting. We wish Sensei Jon all the best in this new role. Assistant Clicker Coach The national clicker coach, Sensei Steve Quaille, will now be assisted by Senpai Dave King of Galway dojo. Senpai Dave has been looking to become a coach for a while now and as an active fighter on the knockdown circuit this was a logical step as there will be no clash between the two. The Junior clicker team is just back from the Severn Challenge where they fought well but sadly did not get the results to match. The coaches are preparing for next years National Clicker tournament and the Severn Challenge 2014 with and eye on the Junior World Tournament in 2015 in Israel. We wish Senpai Dave the best of luck in this new role. For more Information on who the Officers of the IKK are please click here. Good luck to the Irish Junior Team flying out today to take part in this weekends Severn Challenge in Cheshunt in the UK. The team (pictured here) is:
The event will be contested with teams from England, Wales, Switzerland, Ireland, Holland and Israel. Also traveling with the team are their hardworking coaches Sensei Steve Quaile and Sensei Jon Maher. Lending their support will be family members and Senpai Dave King Congratulations to Senpai Aneta Meskauskiene who trains primarily in Killester dojo on her recent success at the KWU World Tournament in Sofia Bulgaria where she finished runner up in her category. Aneta had some tough fights over 2 days facing opponents from Holland, Bulgaria, Great Britain and finally Russia. This was Anetas 4th Tournament of the year (and her second World Tournament). So far this year she has picked up two first places and two second places. And she is not finished yet as I understand she is also entered in the upcoming British Open. A great example of fighting spirit and determination. Osu Shane It is with great sadness that we report the passing of an old member of the IKK. Valerie Goonewarden (Nee Bridgette) passed away on the 22nd September 2013 aged 50 after a long battle with cancer. Val trained with the IKK for many years and had graded to green belt. Val was also a member of the successful IKK womens Clicker team that came first in the 1988 European Championships in Stuttgart, Germany. Our thoughts and prayers are with her family and friends at this time. Her extended Kyokushin family will miss her and her great fighting spirit. Osu We have a busy day this coming Saturday 12/10/2013. In Galway dojo there is a knockdown training session open to all from 10.00 - 13.00 - Please bring pads, notebook and water being run by Sensei Shane (Lalor). In Mullingar Dojo the Juniors will be training Clicker from 13.00 - 15.00.being run by Sensei Steve and Sensei Jon. Also in Mullingar there will be the first of our new Kata training from 15.00 - 16.00 being run by Sensei Jon. Shane Best of luck to our fighters competing in this weekends KWU World Tournament being held in Sofia, Bulgaria. We have Dave King and Aneta Meskauskiene competing in their Second World Tournament of the year. Looking after them is their Team Representative Shane MulhalBest of luck also to our neighbours and friends from Team GB.
The tournament is being streamed live here www.superkarate.ru Osu! On Saturday the 12th of October Sensei Jon will be running a kata training session between 3pm and 4pm in Mullingar dojo. This session is first and foremost to practice kata. This first session is a test to see who is interested in kata, who wants to compete at kata and who would like to advance their kata further. The success of this kata training will lead way to further training sessions depending on numbers. If we don't get students to turn up then we will be discontinuing the training and successive training sessions may take a long time to come around again. Initial cost for this hour is €8. If Sensei Jon gets a comfortable amount of students, he will drop the cost to suit the numbers. This is open to all grades initially. It will become more selective when regular participants or the majority decide what they would like to do. I.e competition, grading or practice kata. For all of those who have expressed an interest in kata, This is for you. Osu! |
