Saturday the 7th of March saw the first kata practice session of 2015 for the IKK. It was held in Mullingar dojo and run by Sensei Jon Maher. It was a three hour session that seemed like only 1 hour for the seniors and perhaps an eternity for the juniors. However they kept their spirits up, soldiered on and in true Kyokushin spirit never gave up.

Everybody had a chance to learn new kata's and practice their learned ones. It was a good manageable turnout with members from Minamigawa Dojo, Mullingar dojo, Galway Dojo and Westport Dojo. It was great to see the return to training of Ciara Heneghan from Westport Dojo. The juniors were given a opportunity to learn Saiha Kata at the end of the session. Naturals!!

The format of the session was to work on 10th Kyu all the way to Shodan kata's with emphasis on hip movement, head movement and transition of stances. It was extremely productive to everyone and it is always great to see smiles during and after a session. Before we knew it the time had run out and we really only scratched the surface. None the less, progress was made and every victory adds purpose to the goal.

Many thanks to the parents of the students who travelled to Mullingar and waited patiently while their child was training. Without this dedication we cannot have these sessions and although some of the parents don't wear dogi's, they are considered Kyokushin by all our instructors. Many thanks to Sensei Ken for organising the dojo.

The IKK will have the next kata session in April. Date, venue and time will be given in due course.

Sensei Jon Maher will be holding the first kata session of 2015 in Mullingar dojo on the 7th of March from 1pm to 4pm. The cost for this session will be €7 per person. The first two hours will be spent focusing on 10th kyu to shodan. The last hour will be spent working on Nidan katas only. All are welcome to participate in the third hour but be aware that all concentration will be with black belts. It doesn't matter if you know the katas or not. Time will be spent going through the katas giving time for people to pick them up.

The next kata session will be held in Mulligar dojo on the 30th of November between 1pm and 3pm. Due to the great response at the last session the fee will be €7. This is the last session of this year and a good opportunity to get some extra tuition on kata if you are attempting grading on the 6th and 7th of December. Once again it will be open to all grades and please set a reminder. Also I won’t be teaching new kata’s at this session, just refining the ones known.

Hope to see a good turn out again.

On Saturday the 12th of October Sensei Jon will be running a kata training session between 3pm and 4pm in Mullingar dojo.

This session is first and foremost to practice kata. This first session is a test to see who is interested in kata, who wants to compete at kata and who would like to advance their kata further. The success of this kata training will lead way to further training sessions depending on numbers. If we don't get students to turn up then we will be discontinuing the training and successive training sessions may take a long time to come around again.

Initial cost for this hour is €8. If Sensei Jon gets a comfortable amount of students, he will drop the cost to suit the numbers.

This is open to all grades initially. It will become more selective when regular participants or the majority decide what they would like to do. I.e competition, grading or practice kata.

For all of those who have expressed an interest in kata, This is for you.

Osu!
