Osu We are pleased to attach the design for the new IKK Tshirt (Concept courtesy of Ben Kelly and design courtesy of Ollie Potter) The Text on the back reads: "Neart in ár lámha,Glaine in ár gcroíthe, Agus beart de réir ár mbriathar" Strength in our hands,Purity in our hearts,And action to match our words! Taken from tales of na Fianna and fitting words indeed. Osu Shane Osu!

This dojo will be a monthly fee paying dojo and standing order payments will be sought. Price to be arranged. Details will be given on open night. The venue is in Tallaght off the Greenhills Road. It is in an industrial unit owned by the M.A.I (Muslim Association of Ireland). They have kindly given us permission to set up a dojo on their premises. The dojo has its own entrance at the side of the building and will be fitted out over time with all relevant training equipment such as mats, mirrors and punch bags. As karate is predominately about respect, honour and good will, we must observe the wishes and always show respect to the people kind enough to let us set up a dojo. The dojo is connected to prayer rooms and as with Muslim tradition, foot wear is not permitted in the prayer rooms and certain areas. When mats are down on the floor, The IKK will not permit use of footwear on the matted areas. This dojo is open to everybody who wishes to train under the flag of the IKK (Irish Karate Kyokushinkai). Sensei Jon has set up a facebook account for the dojo and will be updated accordingly. Facebook.com/minamigawa dojo . If you have any queries regarding this dojo please contact Sensei Jon directly. He recently returned home for a visit and used this as an opportunity to catch up with his old sparring partners from Finglas dojo. Pictured above on the left are Alan, Shane and Chris on Summer camp 1994 and on the right here they are 20 years later. As usual most of the night was devoted to reminiscing and conversations about how it was harder in our day!

Mullingar Dojo Facebook page has now gone live. You can find it here. Here you will find up to date information about the day to day activities of the club. Please take a look and remember to like their page 2013 was a busy year here in the IKK. We held our annual clicker tournament and our Junior Clicker Coach Sensei Steve Quaile used this to pick the team for the Severn Challenge later in the year. We had an absence from this event for a couple of years so it was good to be back in 2013. Sensei Steve is planning for 2014 and the Junior World Tournament in 2015. Senpai Dave King was appointed Assistant Junior coach this year. Sensei Jon Maher was appointed Kata coach and held several Kata Sessions in preparation for the forthcoming World Tournament in Belgium in 2014 and beyond. Sensei Ken Fitzpatrick and Sensei Shane Mulhall worked tirelessly throughout the year as our Knockdown coaches. Together they entered teams into 2 regional tournaments, 1 national tournament and 2 World Tournaments. And those teams brought home a total of 13 trophies. Special Mention to Senpai Aneta Meskauskiene who won 5 of those trophies including 2nd place at the World Tournament. Looking ahead to 2014 it looks like the coaches will be busy as ever with the usual tournaments and a European Knockdown in November. Our referees were busy in both Clicker and Knockdown. We held 2 referee courses and had officials at our own National Clicker tournament and at 4 Knockdown events in Greece and the UK. Sensei Shane Lalor and Sensei Jon Maher received their International Judge certificates from the IFK Chief referee Shihan Alex Kerrigan. Throughout the year each Dojo held there own Kyu gradings and this meant our panel of grading instructors were kept very busy. We also held two national gradings for Brown belt and above. This year saw one new member of the IKK Yudansha - Senpai Niall King of Galway dojo. Also this year we saw the promotion to Rokudan of our Chief Instructor Shihan Kevin Callan. All in all a busy 2013. We look forward to an even busier and action packed 2014. Osu Congratulations to Senpai Aneta Meskauskiene who trains primarily in Killester dojo on her recent success at the KWU World Tournament in Sofia Bulgaria where she finished runner up in her category. Aneta had some tough fights over 2 days facing opponents from Holland, Bulgaria, Great Britain and finally Russia. This was Anetas 4th Tournament of the year (and her second World Tournament). So far this year she has picked up two first places and two second places. And she is not finished yet as I understand she is also entered in the upcoming British Open. A great example of fighting spirit and determination. Osu Shane It is with great sadness that we report the passing of an old member of the IKK. Valerie Goonewarden (Nee Bridgette) passed away on the 22nd September 2013 aged 50 after a long battle with cancer. Val trained with the IKK for many years and had graded to green belt. Val was also a member of the successful IKK womens Clicker team that came first in the 1988 European Championships in Stuttgart, Germany. Our thoughts and prayers are with her family and friends at this time. Her extended Kyokushin family will miss her and her great fighting spirit. |
