IFK Switzerland
played host to the 2nd IFK World Black Belt course in Chur. The course
ran from Wednesday 9th to Monday 15th November. The course was open to all
IFK Black betst from around the world. In keeping with the IKKs support of all
recent IFK events Sensei Kevin decided we should be represented on this
course. Unfortunately due to work constraints both Sensei Kevin and Sensei
Steve were unable to attend. However Sensei Ken, Sensei Shane, Sensei Patrick
and Senpai Maria were able to travel to this prestigious event.
The Course itself was run by hanshi Steve Arneil 9th Dan and he was assisted
by Shihan Victor Fomin of Russia, Shihan Klaus Ming and Shihan Eddy
Gabalthier of Switzerland and Shihan Nick da Costa and Sensei David Lund
Regan of Great Britain. Each day began at 6.30 (in reality 6.15) with a kihon
session led by Hanshi. This lasted until 8.30 (in reality 8.45) and was
followed by a hearty breakfast. Each day consisted of four training sessions
usually ending around 9.30-10.00pm. The sessions were varied but new to most
people was Shihan Victors knife work and Sensei Daves Bo sessions.
There was approximately 100 people on the camp literally from all over the
world. Countries respresented were Ireland, England, Wales, Spain, France,
Germany, Belgium, Norway, Sweden, Switzerland, Russia, Estonia, Lithuania,
Australia, Holland, South Africa, Poland, Argentina and possibly some more I
have forgotten. At the end of the last day the traditional sayonara party was
held and after a few drinks the triedness of training eight to ten hours a
day seemed to dissipate.
