Report on course with Shihan David Pickthal 28th and 29th May 2004

International Federation of Karate

On the weekend of the 28th and 29th May 2004 we were fortunate enough to have a course by Shihan David Pickthal of the BKK. Shihan Pickthal holds the rank of Godan and is one of the few genuine all rounders in Kyokushin. He has won titles in Kata, Clicker and Knockdown during his career and is the BKK Knockdown coach.

The course was held in Mullingar. The friday night session was for seniors only and was held in Sensei Kens dojo. The course covered many areas and Shihan introduced us to some new methods of stretching over the weekend. The course continued on Saturday morning and we were joined by juniors and seniosr from dojos all acroos Ireland. After a short break for lunch we moved to a GAA hall outside of Mullingar to accomodate the larger numbers. Shihan covered more stretching, Kihon in many different stances and of course clicker and knockdown. We ended the session with general sparring and then it was back to Dublin for a relaxing night out. The general impresssion from participants was that they felt they learned a lot of new things and would like to see Shihan return for another course at some point in the future.
