I have just gotten an old VHS cassette converted to digital media. Here is the first of quite a few videos.

This one features Senpai Mark Lynskey of Killester/Digges Lane dojo in action against an unknown opponent in the Novice section of the 1994 London Open.

The new K400 ISAMI Gi from Kyokushin UK

Quite often I hear people complain about the expense of ISAMI gis. £150 sterling may seem like a lot initially but given the quality and how hard wearing they are, I think they are great value. I got almost 20 years out of my first one because I treated it well. That works out at £7.50 a year! Ask anyone who has kids who play football what the boots alone cost each year or whose kids do Irish Dancing and you will see whats expensive.

Anyway if you are still not convinced there is good news. Kyokushin UK have introduced the K400 Medium weight Gi. Same great ISAMI quality but a little lighter on you and your pocket - £80.

For more information please see here.

For absolutely no discount at all tell them Shane sent you.

I am organising a social gathering on Saturday the 1st of August to celebrate the 1st year anniversary of Minamigawa Dojo. The venue will be in Dandelion bar on St Stephens Green, Dublin from 8pm on. Its the only place I can think of that has a lot of standing space in it. This is also a great opportunity to get all IKK members over 18 years of age to come along to a well over due home social. So if you are available on that night please come along.

The Inaugural Wales Vs Ireland tournament was held on Saturday June 6th 2015. We sent over a team of five Junior Clicker fighters, 1 Cadet and 11 Senior knockdown fighters. These 17 fighters were joined by a large group of supporters.

Also traveling were the Junior Coach Senpai Dave King, Senior Coaches Sensei Ken Fitzpatrick and Senpai Ciaran Stapleton, Referees Sensei Shane Lalor and Sensei Jon Maher. Last but by no means least was Shihan Kevin Callan our Chief Instructor and Country Representative.

Our day started in Dublin airport and after a short flight to Bristol we were picked up by a coach and began our Journey to Cardiff. We arrived with an hour to spare and got ourselves sorted. The tournament was due to start at 6.30 and right on time Shihan Terry Prescott began the Introductory speeches. After this the fighting started.

First up was the Junior clicker which set the tone for the rest of the night. After 5 hard fought fights Wales were victorious on a scoreline of 3.5 to 1.5. Well done to both sets of fighters for setting an example to all.

This was followed by the Knockdown fights. The atmosphere was electric with both sets of supporters trying to out do each other. These fights were match ups with fighters hand picked to fight each other. They were very well matched up as could be seen by the fact that almost all the fights went the distance. In the end Wales ran out winners by a scoreline of 7-5.

All that was left was the after party and that alone could be the topic of another article - but wont be :)

It was a fantastic event and special mention should go to Sensei Kevin Wells and Sensei Roger Styles for organising it so well. We look forward to 2016 and the rematch. The wheels are already in motion.

Find out what happened at this years English Open

Three fighters and one Coach from IKK represented at recent BKK English Open.  Sean Murtagh from Mullingar Dojo was first fight of the Tournament day in M/W Novice and fought very well for only his second outing against a more experienced Welsh Fighter.  The fight went 2 rounds and unfortunately Sean had 2 flags against him and the ref. went with his opponent.  Sean will fight in Wales in a few weeks.

Miroslaw Wierzbinski from Mullingar fought in Novice L/W and was also up against a more experienced English fighter.  Miroslaw fought well for his first ever time at Knockdown and got some nice jodan kicks in.  Unfortunately experience told and the English fighter got the decision after the first round.  This fighter went on to win the eventual Tournament.

Aneta Meskauskiene from Killester Dojo fought Emma Markwell in the Open Women’s H/W final as there were just 2 entries in this division.  The first round in the final was 3 mins and both girls fought really well neither giving way.  Another 2 rounds of 2 mins each was battled out and a split decision was called with Emma gaining the referee’s vote.  Aneta fought brilliantly and it could have gone either way.  Technique and fighting spirit was excellent from both fighters.

On the 26th of April 2015 there was a national clicker squad training session in preparation for the Ireland v Wales tournament in Cardiff in June. Senpai Dave King was in charge of the session with 2nd kyu Frank O'Connor assisting. Over 20 karateka attended  what was an intense session in which the importance of effective distancing in scoring techniques, reflexes, and fitness was focused on. Senpai Dave was impressed with the spirit on display during the session particularly by those from other dojos who had traveled so far to train. The session ended with a team spar. The next session will be held in Galway on 10/05/2015. All those interested in Clicker, and those interested in representing their country in the Cup of Europe being held in Galway in October, should attend. Attendance will be monitored.

There was a grading held in Galway Dojo on the 18th of April 2015. Shihan Kevin Callan held two seperate sessions, taking those attempting 10th, 9th and 8th Kyus in the morning and in a later session taking all those going for 7th through to 3rd kyu. After an intense session where kata, kihon fitness and spirit were sorely tested by Shihan, all 55 attendees  of the grading were successful in passing their grades.
