Members of our club were invited to perform a demonstration, as part of Westmeath Sport Partnership Destination sport week. We were asked to do a twenty minute slot in the market square along with some other sporting clubs. We decided to do a mixed demo, showing the crowd various parts of our style.
This included a basic warm up followed by some basic strikes and kicks in Sanchin Dachi with Kiai, lead by Sensei Ken Fitzpatrick which attracted the crowd to what we were doing.
Following this we did 2 x 1minute round of anything on the thai pads which showed how contolled and powerful our technique can be, Mixing knockdown and street techniques. Then Sensei Ken and Senpai Ciaran Stapleton demonstrated some self defence moves, which they showed first and then got the other club members to perform on each other, one for one. Sweeps were included which show the power and skill in these self defence movements. To finish Senpai Alan and Darren performed Tameshiwari, showing how the strikes can be adapted. Hand, legs and head techniques were used through one piece of wood which really impressed the crowd.
Overall the demo was put together and performed extremely well by all members of the club. The crowd was very impressed by all parts of the demo. The feedback was positive. This was a great chance to showcase our club and style to the local people.
Thanks to Westmeath Sport Partnership for their invitation, and to all the Club members who gave up their Sunday afternoon to help out.
