NB In preparing this history of
Kyokushin Karate we have endeavoured to steer clear of the political turmoil
arising after Sosais Death. To this end we have included events relevant to the
IKK both as members of the International Kyokushin Organisation (IKO) up to 1992
and thereafter as members of the International Federation of Karate (IFK).
- 1923 - Masutatsu Oyama Born near

- 1953 - First Dojo opened in Meijiro
Tokyo - Instructor was Kenji Mizushima
- 1954 - Sign board for Oyama Dojo set
up - Instructors were Kenji Mizushima & Eiji Yasuda
- 1956 - Dojo moves to rented old
Ballet School behind Rikko University - Instructors were Kenji Mizushima,
Eiji Yasuda, Masami Ishibashi & Ken Minamimoto. Membership of 300
students.
- 1965 - British Karate Kyokushinkai

Tournament held in Tokyo - Kenji Midori wins title
- 1992 - BKK resign from IKO. Hanshi
Steve Arneil founds International Federation of Karate. IKK resign from IKO
and join the IFK
- 1994 - Sosai Masutatsu Oyama dies
aged 71.
- 1995 - IFK holds its first European
tournament in Cardiff Wales.
- 1997 - IFK holds its first World
weight division tournament in Moscow Russia.
- 2002 - IFK holds its second World
weight division tournament in Valencia Spain.
- 2003 - Irish Karate Kyokushinkai
celebrates its 25th Anniversary.
- 2003 - IFK holds its first World
Kata Tournament in Poland.
- 2005 - IFK holds its third World
weight division tournament in London England.
