The annual clicker competition was held on
Saturday 1st 2003. This was open to all students including high grades. The
venue was Galway Lawn tennis club. Preparations had been ongoing in all clubs
for months prior to this event. Such was the desire to compete that the draw was
only made 3 days prior to the tournament and even on the day we had one or two
late entries. The final set-up of the hall was complete by 11.00 and following
the referees meeting and a demonstration of the rules the tournament proper
kicked off.
There were four categories for this competition
- Aged 10 and under (Approx 60 entrants)
- Aged 13 and under (Approx 50 entrants)
- Aged 16 and under (Approx 10 entrants)
- Over 16 (Approx 40 entrants)
With a total entry of over 160 fighters it was
going to be a long day for everyone not least the referees who performed
admirably throughout the day with little or no breaks. There were three fighting
areas each with a dedicated head referee, mirror referee, ajudicator, timekeeper
and draw controller. As usual Sensei Kevin ran around ensuring that everything
went smoothly. Each category was fought off through to the semi finals and at
this point all the fighting action switched to the centre area. The days
fighting finished on time at 17.00.
